Although...But (虽然...但是)

虽然...但是 expresses concession: although A, B is still true.

Pattern

虽然 + Concession, 但是/可是 + Main point

虽然 introduces a conceded fact, 但是 introduces the contrasting main point. Chinese uses BOTH together (unlike English "although...but").

但是 can be replaced with 可是 (slightly more casual) or 不过.

虽然很贵，但是质量很好。

Suīrán hěn guì, dànshì zhìliàng hěn hǎo.

Although it's expensive, the quality is good.

虽然他很忙，但是每天都运动。

Suīrán tā hěn máng, dànshì měi tiān dōu yùndòng.

Although he is busy, he exercises every day.

虽然下雨了，可是我们还是去了。

Suīrán xià yǔ le, kěshì wǒmen háishi qù le.

Although it rained, we still went.
